Todaiji Temple, located in Nara, is a temple that oversees the branch temples of the Kegonshu sect of Buddhism. It is said to be a symbol of the Tenpyo culture and was built by Emperor Shomu after he unified the powers of the nation. There are many national treasures and important cultural assets including the Rushanabutsu, also known as the “Great Buddha of Nara”. It is also registered as a World Heritage site as part of the cultural assets of Ancient Nara.
