Fujiwara was Japan’s first castle town.Although the palace no longer exist, the red foundation pillar remained indicates the size and architectural design of the palace.

In addition to the ruin’s historical importance, it became known among photographers and travelers for the seasonal flowers blooming all over the field – field mustards in spring, lotus in summer, and cosmos flowers in autumn.
