Red lacquer shrine illuminates the sky of Kyoto

The main hall of Heianjingu Shrine is a scaled-down version of Chodo-in Hall located in Heian-kyo, today’s Kyoto. The shrine garden sitting further into the shrine precinct is a national place of scenic beauty with an area of approximately 30,000 m2. Be sure to visit in the spring season when the weeping cherry blossoms bloom. The Jidai Festival when a picture scroll illustrated with artworks from early eras are spread across the streets will take place on October 22 every year.
