Rokko-Shidare Observatory

A Cypress-Thatched Observatory Overlooking One of Japan's Best Views

A Cypress-Thatched Observatory Overlooking One of Japan's Best Views

This observatory is built in 2010 and is a landmark of Kobe and Mount Rokko. It was designed with the concept “a big tree on top of Mount Rokko” by the award-winning architect Hiroshi Sambuichi.

In winter, you will be able to view icicles or ice-covered trees; in summer, the “cold wind experience” using the natural ice collected in winter, is perfect to escape from the sweltering summer heat. The scenery from this observatory will show you a different facet of Mount Rokko in every season.

At night, LED light with more than 10 million colors will be projected onto the cypress frames – paired with the “10 million dollar night view” right under your eyes, the magnificent views at the Rokko-Shidare Observatory is surely not to be missed.
