The Yumeyobashi Castle Road is just a short walk from the Kyobashi Bridge that spans the moat of Hikone Castle. The streets are decorated in a machiya style with white walls and black lattices, reminiscent of the castle town of the Edo period. It is an “old new town” with the scent of the old and the new, where Japanese and Western confectionery shops and stores selling local products line the streets.
