A Zen temple of the Rinzai sect. The Cloud-Dragon Painting by Kayama Matazo on the ceiling of the Dharma Hall is truly a delight to see. The face of the dragon changes depending on the different angle you stand, hence the painting is also known as “the Dragon Staring in All Directions”.

Outside the main building, the Sogen Pond Garden built in 1339 is the no.1 historical site of scenic beauty and have been registered as a world heritage site in 1994. This garden is famous for the combination of aristocratic elegance and simplicity, harmonizing perfectly with Mt. Kameyama and Mt. Arashiyama in the background.
