Yume-Kyobashi Akari-Kan
Introducing various cultural collections excavated from Hikone's town
The perfect place for that special gift
March 19, 2017

Akari-kan located in Hikone City's Yume Kyobashi Castle Road area offers unique goods and special souvenirs. Finding something special that caputures the essence of ones holiday can be difficult. This is especially true where many shops in tourist areas carry the same type of mass produced goods. Akari-kan focuses on local products and items that truly capture the Japanese spirit. Akari-kan's selection of handmade Japanese candles and other handmade products makes it one of the best places to find gifts and souviners that will be remembered long after the vacation is over.

I arrived in Japan almost 19 years ago as a student and fell in love with the culture and beauty of the country. Over the next 18 years I found myself coming back to Japan frequently and finally decided to move to Japan fulltime to assume the role of the Resident Director for the Japan Center for Michigan Universities. I enjoy cycling around Japan, especially around Lake Biwa.

The regional facility opened in April 1997 when the Yumekyobashi Castle Road was chosen as the Omi Sengoku Road for the Omi Rekishi Kairou Concept, promoted by Shiga Prefecture. At this facility, you can rediscover the charm of the castle town that was produced by Akari with the central theme of Japanese candles made from Hikone and acquire information on the road of Omi Sengoku. There is also an original candle craft corner.
