Hikone Castle's walls have stood for over 400 years.
One of the best ways to see the walls up-close is to take a ride around the inner moat on a Yakata-fune, a boat with a low roof made for cruising on Japan's rivers and canals. Experienced guides make the trip around the castle one to remember as they fill you in on facts about the castle, Hikone City, and the Ii Family, the feudal rulers of Hikone.
Osuki Yakatabune, a barge style boat associated with the Ii family, runs through the inner moat of the Hikone Castle. You can enjoy cruising as if you were a feudal lord.
